When You Get Dumped, The Only Thing You Know How to Do is Rise Up

Hello There!

For those of you new here, let me introduce myself. I’m Laura, owner of the Powerhouse Team insurance, the Powerhouse Life podcast, Sisco Properties, and an online leadership coach. I have a passion for entrepreneurship and leadership, and I love being a mom to my three amazing girls.

Ten years ago, I went through a devastating divorce that impacted me financially, emotionally, and physically. But I decided that being a broke, single mom was not going to be my story. I got pregnant at 17, married at 18, separated at 22, and by 23, I was on food stamps, praying that God would open a door to change my life. I knew deep down I had the drive to change my circumstances; I just needed an opportunity.

Nine years ago, that opportunity came in the form of knocking on doors to sell life insurance. Who would’ve thought? Even though I had a college degree, it wasn’t related to sales, marketing, or business. I thought I’d be making movies and working as a casting director. But in a weird way, sales allowed me to act, and recruiting let me spot talent, so I guess I did end up using my degree after all!

Over the past decade, I’ve scaled my insurance agency to produce over $6 million annually and helped other women leaders change the trajectory of their lives. It has been nothing short of a blessing. I found my passion in encouraging leaders, helping them grow and develop their organizations and people. I realized I could be a strong woman, a great mom, and have multiple businesses. I even started investing in real estate with my hubby, whom I’ve now been married to for six years. He’s my best friend and the father of my two youngest daughters. It’s crazy what can happen in a decade!

Today, I want to encourage you. No matter where you are in life, if you want to change, you can do it. If you need an opportunity, go look for it—make friends, build connections, and network. Know deep down that you have what it takes to lead your own life and others. If you want to start a business, you can do that too.

Just know that there are women around you who will support you, encourage you, and lift you up and I want to be that woman for you.
